The Joke as a Linguistic and Cultural Phenomenon (Вицът като езиков и културен феномен)
German-Bulgarian Parallels and Contrasts. Translatability.
The joke as a genre in humorous discourse has been the subject of debate in various academic fields such as ethnology, psychology, sociology, philosophy, literary theory, and linguistics. The present book makes an attempt to summarize and synthesize all previous scholarly endeavors, by employing an interdisciplinary approach to the discussion of jokes both as a linguistic and cultural phenomenon. As comparative studies of jokes are practically lacking, the present study has undertaken the task of comparing the linguistic and cultural specifics of the genre of jokes in German and Bulgarian traditions; consequently, the emphasized parallels will enable readers to outline translatability of jokes.
