Sostra I. Research of the Roman Roadside Station and Castle on the Road Escus-Philippopolis
In this first volume of the series “Sostra. Research of the Roman roadside station and castle on the road Escus-Philippopolis” are presented the results of the researches of the best preserved roadside complexes in the Roman province Lower Moesia, that had existed from the middle of the IInd to the end of the Vth century.
The authors report their long studies of the necropolis of the roadside station, the fortified camp for subsidiary military units, the settlements around the camps, cult buildings and a great number of archaeological monuments.
The publishing of this volume is also related to the archaeological excavations, aimed at the preservation of Sostra, which the National Historical Museum started in 2002.
The publishing of the results is realized with the exclusive financial help of Rotary club – Troyan. The support which the members of Rotary club – Trojan rendered to the archaeological campaign is based on the long-term program for assistance of the researches, preservation and popularization of Sostra – a cultural monument of national significance.
