From Philosophy of History to Studies of Historical Knowledge

The goal of the book is to map out the field of philosophy of history and its transformation into the present-day studies of historical
knowledge. One can do this from different perspectives, and even if the possible perspectives share common points, they are always
divergently focused. Although the main intention of this book is to emphasize the contemporary situation, it introduces this contemporary
situation through the tradition which has made it possible. As a consequence, the task is complicated by the need to combine the
account of the current state of critical theory of history with an outline of the development of philosophy of history as an academic discipline. A further complication comes from the ambition to take into account the perspectives, lines of problematization and visions of future inscribed in the currently emerging problematics of the studies of historical knowledge.
